Digital Review of Asia-Pacific
The number of telephone and Internet subscribers worldwide have increased tremendously in many countries, even in poor countries of Africa. You can read about IT development in the Asia Pacific region at Digital Review of Asia Pacific.
The Asia Pacific region is a lively area where people not only travel for work and holidays but also the people here travel to shop for IT gadgets. They own some of the best gadgets the IT industry has to offer. They buy them when they see them, anywhere, it doesn't matter, so long as the price is right. They pop into airport shops and phone stores more than ever before. There are less shoppers in shoe shops and lingerie shops and other departmental stores compared to phone & computer stores. Shoppers prefer to spend their time at IT gadgets stores, especially smartphone, tablet and laptop stores - anything that you can take with you when you travel. Travelling is a keyword in today's highly mobile population. Nobody stays at home for long - people often travel than stayput.
In Malaysia today, teenagers (13 years olds) own Samsung Note II and iPhone. Year 1 medical students own Samsung or iPhone and have tablets for private study and small group discussion (SGD) - some have iPad, others have Samsung. These gadgets maybe way too expensive for the average child or student, but parents are willing to fulfill their children's need, thus creating a big and hungry market for such gadgets.
If you travel to Perth and visit the phone stores at Hay St Mall, you will youths stuck there for hours, trying out the various gadgets on disply. If you then travel of the trains, you will notice teenagers with earphones plugged in and they are not bothered with the surrounding. These IT gadgets are submersive and youths get hooked to them for hours on end. This is a new world phenomenon which has taken all of us by surprise. This is an addictive revolution!
